Lottie Ward is tied for first place with Lydia Ko after the second round of the Hilton Grand Vacations Tournament of Champions.
England’s Ward shot an opening-round 67 of 69 on Friday at Lake Nona Golf & Country Club in Florida, improving his tournament total to 8 under par.
Ward felt he could have played better after making four birdies and one bogey.
“I looked at the leaderboard a lot because I was frustrated today,” Ward said.
“I felt like I was still in it because the low scores didn’t seem like a lot. The pins were probably a little trickier so I didn’t have as many birdies as I did yesterday. So it was all I could do to keep giving myself chances.”
Ward won the Women’s Irish Open as an amateur last July, and three weeks later won the Women’s Scottish Open in her professional debut.
Coe, a three-time major champion, shot a 5-under 67 and tied with Ward at 8 under.
“I would never say this golf course is easy,” Coe said. “Obviously, we play mixed tees, we tee off some black tees, some white tees, some blue tees.
“This golf course changes a lot depending on the conditions. May is that time of year, so it’s very soft, so it’s actually hard to play.
“The greens are the biggest change between my days playing here and when we’re tournament ready. Coach does an incredible job making sure the greens are as clean as possible and as fast as possible.”
Current world No. 2 and former world No. 1 Nelly Korda shot a 71 and is now three shots behind at five under.
Korda hasn’t won an event since November 2024.
“The weather is going to be a little bit bad so I’m going to go to the putting green and go to the practice range because I didn’t have the best shots today,” Korda said.
“I’m going to think about a few things for the weekend.”
