Michael van Gerwen has missed tonight’s Premier League darts event in Glasgow due to illness.
Van Gerwen’s scheduled quarter-final opponent, Luke Littler, then advanced to the third night semi-final on a bye under tournament rules, gaining two league points and a leg difference of +1.
The Dutchman has enjoyed a strong start to the new season, winning on night one in Newcastle and finishing runner-up to Gerwyn Price in Antwerp last week.
However, the seven-time Premier League champions will not feature in Scotland after being ruled out of night three of the OVO Hydro.
Van Gerwen missed last year’s Berlin Games due to a shoulder injury, and if he misses tonight’s match it will be a serious blow to his chances of winning his eighth title.
The 36-year-old withdrew from Thursday night’s card, leaving him with zero league points and -6 leg difference.
Luke Littler will face Johnny Clayton or Price in the final four.
