Moises Caicedo will be recognized for his exceptional performances at Chelsea, with the terms of his contract likely to be adjusted to reflect his status as a world-class midfielder.
Chelsea have a contract with him until 2033, but he could be granted a pay rise depending on his performance over the past 12 months. Changes to the Terms will be made privately.
Chelsea’s salary structure is very encouraging, with players being paid relatively low compared to other top clubs, but they are rewarded for playing well.
Caicedo joined Chelsea in the summer of 2023 for £115 million, making him the most expensive player in Premier League history, a record that has since been broken twice. The Ecuadorian has taken time to justify his price tag, but his performances over the past 12 months have been exceptional, with Chelsea winning major accolades in the Europa Conference League and Club World Cup.
“For me, him and Rodri, they are two of the best defensive midfielders in the world at the moment,” manager Enzo Maresca said after his performance in the recent 1-0 win against Tottenham.
And after Spurs’ victory, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp compared Caicedo to Claude Makelele and N’Golo Kante, who won titles with the Blues.
“He’s world class,” Redknapp said. “I would go so far as to say that he is the best of his type in world football at the moment. The way he covers the ground, his desire, the quality of the ball, the way he puts out team fires, the pursuit of lost causes, the strength of the ball, the way he always makes the right pass is truly amazing.”
Quiet January expected at Chelsea
Chelsea are not expected to make any key additions in January, meaning they will not sign a goalkeeper, centre-back or defensive midfielder, despite some fans wanting them to replace the injured Romeo Rabia and Dario Esgo.
Chelsea’s focus is on preparing major reinforcements for the summer 2026 and 2027 transfer windows.
Axel DiSasi is set to return to training with Chelsea’s first team, but he is still likely to leave in January.
Disasi had been training with Raheem Sterling in a freeze before taking over as captain of the Under-21 team on Saturday. As a result, Disasi will return to the first team. He moved to Chelsea in 2023 for £38 million.
Meanwhile, Tyrik George is also a player who could leave in January. A move to Fulham fell through on deadline day and Chelsea are happy with him this season, but he wants to play regularly and is in demand.
Next summer’s representative player will be Emmanuel Emega.
The Strasbourg forward has signed a pre-agreement to join Chelsea in the summer of 2026.
The 22-year-old Strasbourg striker chose Chelsea ahead of other major European clubs and Premier League clubs. He spent three years at Strasbourg playing in Europe and wanted to continue his development before joining Chelsea.
Chelsea expect him to be fit to play in the Premier League next season. During his time at Strasbourg, he played in 57 league games and scored 26 goals.
