Middlesbrough manager Rob Edwards missed Friday morning training due to interest from Wolves.
Boro also canceled Edwards’ pre-match press conference ahead of Saturday’s game against Birmingham. Edwards was scheduled to address the media at 1:30 p.m., but that did not take place.
The cancellation came after Boro rejected an approach from Wolves seeking permission to speak to the former Luton manager on Thursday.
Sky Sports News reported that Edwards is a candidate to take over as manager of Wolves after Vitor Pereira was sacked on November 2nd after starting the Premier League season without a win in 10 games.
He has been considered as a candidate and is currently considered the frontrunner at Molineux.
The Middlesbrough manager has been linked with Wolves, making over 100 appearances for them as a player from 2004 to 2008.
He was also part of the club’s coaching staff, working with the U18 team in 2014 before being promoted to a first-team coaching position in 2015.
He returned to the club after a short break and was due to become head coach of the Under-23 team in 2019, a role he held until joining Forest Green Rovers in 2021.
Edwards replaced Michael Carrick at Middlesbrough in the summer, leading the team to third place in the Championship.
When previously asked about replacing Pereira at Molineux, he insisted he was fully focused on the job at the Riverside Stadium.
“You know my connection to the club (Wolves),” Edwards said. “But my whole focus is on this job here, a great job, and trying to turn things around.
“It’s difficult to comment on speculation, but we’ve done a decent job so far.
“It’s all speculation anyway. I’m never attracted to anything that’s all hypothetical, and I don’t want to be attracted to it.
“I love being manager of Middlesbrough and I like to think about it.
“All I can say is that I don’t think about it because I’m just focused on it. It’s all what my daughter told me.”
Wolves had previously held talks with former manager Gary O’Neill over a return to the club, but O’Neill chose to withdraw from the race himself citing timing issues.
