On Thursday night, the Seattle Seahawks rallied from a 16-point fourth-quarter deficit to beat the Los Angeles Rams 38-37 and take a one-game lead in the NFC West. In overtime, Sam Darnold connected with Jackson Smith-Njiba for a touchdown, then a wide-open Eric Saubert converted the game-winning two-point conversion.
The Seahawks went 3-for-3 on two-point conversions, but nothing could have been more improbable than the conversion that tied the game at 30-all in the fourth quarter. Darnold’s deflected pass to Zach Charbonnet was initially ruled incomplete, but a replay review determined it was a backwards pass. Charbonnet, who casually picked up a loose ball in the end zone, scored two points.
The Rams got the ball first in overtime, and Matthew Stafford connected with Puka Nacua, who ran straight into the end zone for a 41-yard touchdown to make it 37-30.
Nacua had 12 catches for 225 yards and two touchdowns, Stafford passed for 457 yards (third-most in his career) and three scores, and the Rams’ offense totaled 581 yards with no turnovers.

Nevertheless, the Seahawks made some big stops in the fourth quarter that were crucial to Seattle’s comeback. The Rams had four punts and one missed field goal on their final five possessions in regulation.
Seattle (12-3) has clinched a playoff berth and moved into the NFC’s top seed, while Los Angeles (11-4) will open the playoffs on the road if they can’t get past the Seahawks in the final two weeks of the season.
The Seahawks took a 30-14 lead after Rashid Shahid returned a punt 58 yards for a touchdown and Darnold connected with Cooper Kupp for a two-point conversion. After a Rams 3-and-out, Darnold tied it with tight end AJ Barner’s 26-yard TD and Charbonnet’s unorthodox two-point play.
Darnold had four interceptions in a 21-19 loss to the Rams on Nov. 16, in which he was picked off twice, including by 297-pound defensive end Coby Turner. However, he made clutch throws in the fourth quarter and OT, finishing with 270 passing yards and two touchdowns.
Despite getting off to a slow start, Smith-Nijiva had eight catches for 96 yards and a score.
