U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi appeared before the House Judiciary Committee on Wednesday, delivering the tense and most combative testimony yet from a Trump administration official.
Bondi’s hearing comes as the administration and the Justice Department face a series of issues, including the handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case file, the newly reported failure to indict six Democratic members of Congress, and the killing of two protesters by federal agents in Minneapolis.
During her testimony, Bondi spoke directly to Epstein survivors sitting behind her, saying she “deeply regrets” the abuse they suffered at the hands of “that monster.”
The Justice Department has come under fire for its handling of the so-called Epstein file. It has been accused both of resisting turning over all documents that are part of the investigation into sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein and of editing errors when those documents were eventually made public.
Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal called on survivors in the audience to stand up and raise their hands if they were unable to meet with the Justice Department about the abuses they suffered. She said all of the victims raised their hands.
