U.S. President Donald Trump meets with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who is meeting to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine, at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, on August 15, 2025.

A senior Russian diplomat said the possibility of another meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump is on the agenda.

“We do not exclude any possibility,” Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said in an interview with the state-run International Affairs magazine published Saturday.

“The search for ways to move forward continues,” he said.

Ryabkov said that contacts between Russia and the United States have not been interrupted and dialogue channels continue to operate.

Trump and Putin last met in Alaska in August, but were unable to reach any agreement to resolve or suspend Russia’s war in Ukraine. Plans to meet in Budapest were subsequently suspended indefinitely.

“We are working continuously. We have established formats and channels. Not all of these channels are visible or audible, and not all need to be discussed publicly, but the fact remains that everything is working as it should.”

Ryabkov said the progress in establishing dialogue between Russia and the United States is “impressive.”

Ryabkov also commented on the possibility of a trilateral meeting with China and the United States on nuclear stability, saying that the Russian government has no intention of pushing China towards it.

“There are no questions for China on the topic of arms control and strategic stability,” Ryabkov said, adding that Russia had not received any formal proposal from the United States regarding such talks.

President Trump has expressed interest in involving China in nuclear weapons reduction efforts along with Russia and the United States.

He said last month that President Putin had raised the prospect of bilateral nuclear detente, and that China could join the effort.
