US President Donald Trump announced on Monday that he would order the military to postpone attacks on Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for five days following “productive” talks on a “total resolution” of hostilities in the Middle East.

In a post on his Truth Social platform, President Trump said the United States and Iran had “very helpful and productive discussions regarding a complete and complete resolution of hostilities in the Middle East.”

The US president said those talks would continue throughout this week. Oil prices plummeted on the news.

President Trump said in a phone call with CNBC’s Joe Kernen on Monday morning that talks with Iranian officials have been very intense and he remains hopeful that something very substantial can be accomplished.

According to Kernen’s report, the president of the United States has also made similar claims, saying what is happening in Iran could be described as regime change.

President Trump’s comments came shortly after he gave Iran 48 hours to reopen the strategically important Strait of Hormuz.

This narrow waterway is an important maritime corridor connecting the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman. Typically, about 20% of the world’s oil and gas passes through it.

Iranian parliament spokesman Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf said an attack on Iranian power plants could “irreversibly destroy” critical infrastructure and energy facilities in the Gulf region.
