President Donald Trump condemned Rob Reiner on Monday morning, a day after the famed Hollywood director and his wife Michelle Singer Reiner were found brutally murdered in their Los Angeles home.

Trump’s social media abuse of Reiner, a staunch critic of the president, came after Reiner’s 32-year-old son Nick was arrested and held on $4 million bail, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department jail records. Nick Reiner’s online records showed no charges.

President Trump suggested that the couple may have been murdered because of the “outrage” Rob Reiner caused in others because of his opposition to the president.

However, there is no evidence to suggest this is the case, and police have not released a motive.

“Something very sad happened in Hollywood last night,” President Trump wrote on Truth Social.

“Suffering and struggling, Rob Reiner, once a highly talented film director and comedy star, has reportedly passed away along with his wife, Michele, from a severe, indomitable, and incurable illness caused by the debilitating illness known as Trump Derangement Syndrome (also known as TDS) and the anger he provoked in others,” Trump wrote.

“He was known for driving people crazy with his rabid obsession with President Donald J. Trump. His apparent paranoia has reached new heights now that the Trump administration has surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, ushering in perhaps the greatest golden age of America ever seen,” the president wrote.

“May Rob and Michelle rest in peace!”

Representative Thomas Massie, Republican of Kentucky, criticized Trump’s post.

“Regardless of how you felt about Rob Reiner, this is an inappropriate and disrespectful comment on a man who was just brutally murdered,” Massey wrote.

“Wouldn’t my Republican colleagues, the vice president, and the White House staff just ignore it because they’re afraid? I appeal to everyone to protect it,” he added.

Massey has been targeted by President Trump for months after co-sponsoring a House petition that led to the passage of a bill directing the Justice Department to release investigative files on notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and his accomplice Ghislaine Maxwell. Trump opposed the law until the last moment.

Reiner criticized Trump in an interview on MS Now in October.

“Make no mistake about it, we have one year left until this country becomes a full-fledged dictatorship and democracy leaves us completely,” Reiner said in the interview.

“And we look ahead to the 2026 election, and we know that in a free and fair election, Donald Trump will lose,” Reiner said. “He will lose the House, and the House will flip and go to the Democrats. There will be committee chairs who can hold meetings, but this is the last thing he wants.”

U.S. President Donald Trump looks on before departing for the Army-Navy football game in Baltimore at the White House on December 13, 2025 in Washington, DC, USA.

Reiner’s films included “This Is Spinal Tap,” “The Princess Bride,” “When Harry Met Sally,” and “A Few Good Men.”

He first gained fame playing Archie Bunker’s son-in-law on the classic TV show All in the Family.
