President Donald Trump speaks at the U.S.-Saudi Investment Forum in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday.

President Trump’s appearance at the Kennedy Center came a day after he hosted Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman at the White House.

President Bin Salman told reporters on Tuesday that Saudi Arabia is committed to investing $1 trillion in the United States, significantly more than the $600 billion previously promised.

Bin Salman’s visit to the United States will be his first since 2018, when a Saudi strike team killed journalist Jamal Khashoggi at the country’s consulate in Istanbul. U.S. intelligence agencies subsequently concluded that bin Salman had authorized the operation to capture or kill Mr. Khashoggi.

President Trump claimed on Tuesday that bin Salman “knew nothing about it. We can leave him alone.”

President Trump said “things happen” regarding the killing of Khashoggi, who lives in the United States.

“You’re referring to a very controversial figure,” Trump told a reporter who asked him about Khashoggi’s murder.
