Meanwhile, a report by Søren Villegaard, Head of Securities and Balance of Payments at the National Bank of Denmark, said Greenland’s economy faced “significant challenges”. However, the island has rare earth deposits, and the annexation of Greenland by the United States could send related stocks soaring.
However, there is no denying that if President Trump were to give in to his desire to acquire Greenland, the move would be serious, both from a geopolitical perspective and at the level of individual human lives. Markets could react badly to the possibility of a symbolic and concrete breakdown of the NATO partnership.
