Russian attacks have killed at least four civilians and injured 51 others across Ukraine, local officials said. An airstrike blamed on Russia directly hit a store in the Samaliyvsky district of Dnipropetrovsk region, killing two people and injuring several others, regional military commander Vladislav Khayvanenko said. Ukraine’s military said Russian forces fired four missiles and dropped 139 guided bombs in the past day, as well as thousands of artillery shells and drones. Russia’s Ministry of Defense announced that its air defense forces intercepted 164 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 39 over the Black Sea and 26 over Crimea. Fighting continues to intensify near the Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk, with the Russian military saying it has destroyed a Ukrainian military formation near a railway station. Ukrainian military commander-in-chief Oleksandr Shirskiy said Ukrainian troops were facing “thousands of enemy” forces in Pokrovsk, but denied Russian claims that it was surrounded or blockaded. Ukraine confirmed that special forces had been sent to protect Pokrovsk’s vital supply lines, but Russia claimed that Ukrainian forces had surrendered and that some of the special forces were killed while landing by helicopter. Ukrainian military intelligence announced an attack on the Koltsevoy fuel pipeline near Moscow, claiming that all three lines were destroyed. A Ukrainian drone attack reportedly hit a pier and a tanker at an oil terminal in the town of Tuapse on the northeast coast of the Black Sea, causing a fire in the port infrastructure.

politics
Ukraine condemned Russia’s attack on key energy infrastructure. Russia’s Foreign Ministry accused Moscow of carrying out the attack on a substation that supplies power to a nuclear power plant as “nuclear terrorism.” The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has confirmed that its inspectors visited a substation critical to Ukraine’s nuclear safety and security and reported damage “as a result of recent military activities.” G7 energy ministers in a statement on Friday condemned Russia’s attack on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, saying it was affecting civilians. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy claimed on Friday that the country’s foreign intelligence services had identified 339 Ukrainian children allegedly abducted by Russia.
regional security
German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius told Reuters he was confident the country’s coalition government could agree on a new military service model to be implemented next year as planned. An unidentified drone was spotted over Belgium’s Kleine Brogel Air Base on Saturday, the second such sighting in the past 24 hours.
