Here’s what happened on Monday, November 3, 2025:

finding

Russia launched a barrage of drones and missiles into Ukraine on Sunday night, killing at least 15 people, including two children, the Kyiv Independent reported. According to Ukrainian authorities, the attack left about 60,000 residents in the southern front-line region of Zaporizhzhia without power. Ukrainian forces launched a drone attack on Tuapse, one of Russia’s main Black Sea oil ports, starting a fire and damaging at least two foreign ships, local officials said. Sunday night’s attack forced the temporary closure of dozens of Russian airports, mainly in southern and western Russia, for security reasons, Russian aviation watchdog Rosavyatsiya said on Telegram.

weapons

US President Donald Trump has said he is not considering a deal that would allow Ukraine to acquire Tomahawk missiles for use against Russia.

sanctions

Turkiye’s biggest refinery is increasing its purchases of non-Russian oil in response to recent Western sanctions against Russia, two people with direct knowledge of the matter and several industry sources told Reuters. Turkiye is a major buyer of Russian crude along with China and India.

politics and diplomacy

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said a series of deadly Russian attacks on his country proves that Russia aims to “harm” civilians, and announced that Kiev has strengthened its air defenses in response. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said resolving the war in Ukraine would require “painstaking work” on the details of a potential deal, not a meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
