Signed 228 executive orders
On his first day in office, January 20, 2025, Mr. Trump signed 26 executive orders, setting a record for the most executive orders signed by a president on his first day in office.
An executive order is an order issued by the President of the United States. These are considered federally administered and cannot override federal law. Critics say he frequently exceeds these limits, leading to many of his executive orders being challenged in court.
President Trump’s rapid pace of orders continued throughout the first year of his second term, with the president signing a total of 228 executive orders, surpassing the 220 executive orders he signed during the entire four years of his first term, from 2017 to 2021.
At least 605,000 people were deported
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), the second Trump administration had deported at least 605,000 people through DHS enforcement operations as of December 10, with an additional 1.9 million people “voluntarily deported.”
Over the past year, approximately 1.6 million people living in the United States have lost their legal immigrant status, including those affected by Temporary Protected Status and the termination of various student and high-skill visa programs.
In addition, at least 66,886 people were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement under President Trump’s order, with an average of 821 people being arrested each day nationwide.
President Trump on Wednesday also banned immigrant visas for citizens of 75 countries.

One of President Trump’s favorite words for 2025 was tariffs. It imposed itself on allies, neighbors, and enemies alike, disrupting world trade and escalating tensions in international relations.
On average, all U.S. trading partners were affected by 10% tariffs, with India hit the hardest with 50% tariffs.
Tariffs imposed by the United States generated $287 billion in duties, taxes, and fees in 2025, according to daily data from the Treasury Department. However, Yale University’s Budget Institute estimates that the tariffs would cost each American household an average of $1,500 a year in higher prices.

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), headed by Elon Musk, the world’s richest man, was created by President Trump by executive order. Its stated purpose was to reduce costs within the federal government, the nation’s largest employer.

Significant cuts to the Department of Education. and reduced projects funded by the U.S. Agency for International Development until the agency ceased operations and was absorbed into the State Department.
