Leading the league, Manchester City were held to a disappointing goalless draw with bottom-placed Aston Villa, leaving them struggling to get closer to the Women’s Super League title.

Andriy Jegrats’ side looked disjointed upon their return from the international break, but the home side had the upper hand in the first half and had chances to take the lead.

Arsenal won 2-0 against London City Lionesses, thanks to the efforts of Olivia Smith and substitute Stina Blackstenias, moving them within two points of second-placed Manchester United.

A goal from Smith and later from Braxstenius sealed victory for the Gunners, who have games against United and third-placed Chelsea at the gritty Copperjacks Community Stadium before the break.

Kelly Gago came on from the bench to lead Everton to their fifth league win against Tottenham.

At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Nicole Momiki gave the visitors the lead with a goal, but Signe Gorpsett’s 76th-minute equalizer looked like the home side had snatched a point, but Gago scored with seven minutes remaining.

Liverpool took a big step towards relegation with a 2-0 win over bottom club Leicester at St Helens.

Beata Olsson extended the hosts’ lead in the 10th minute, and Ceri Holland’s late penalty sealed victory and saved Gareth Taylor’s side from a four-point threat.
