Bryson DeChambeau defeated Jon Rahm in a playoff to win in South Africa and win his second LIV golf title in as many weeks.

DeChambeau and Rahm both finished 72 holes at 26 under, but the American won his fifth career LIV title with a birdie on the first extra hole.

Afterward, DeChambeau tearfully revealed that he had faced challenges off the track this week, but declined to elaborate further.

“A lot happened in my life last week. I’m so grateful to the team and everyone who supported me,” he said.

“Golf is a fickle game. You spend your whole life working hard at golf, but then you realize that golf is just golf.”

DeChambeau is the third player to win five or more at LIV, joining Joaquin Niemann (seven wins) and Brooks Koepka (five wins), who is currently back on the PGA Tour.

Returning to the par-5 18th, DeChambeau crashed his drive into the mud and mud to the left of the fairway on the rain-soaked course.

He received free relief and was eventually allowed to put down his golf ball. Keeping my feet steady, I hit my next shot 12 feet on the green.

Rahm went from the fairway into a bunker and hit just over 12 feet, misreading his birdie putt. DeChambeau then made two putts for the win, but his eagle putt fell a few inches short.

The Crushers, including DeChambeau’s quartet of Paul Casey, Charles Howell III and Anirban Lahiri, won the team event with a 76-under par, beating South Africa’s Southern Guards by one stroke.

Officials announced Sunday that the event will be held in South Africa again in 2027, but the dates have been revised to April 22-25.

“South Africa was incredible. It has to be the best LIV golf event we’ve ever hosted,” DeChambeau said of the tournament’s first appearance on the LIV calendar.

More than 100,000 spectators were expected to gather in Johannesburg over the four days.
