Oliver Bearman escaped serious injury despite limping away from Haas after a huge crash during the Japanese Grand Prix.

Bearman was chasing Alpine’s Franco Colapinto in 17th place on lap 21 when he lost control and veered onto the grass, spinning at high speed at Spoon Curve and crashing into the barrier.

The 20-year-old had to sit down after getting out of his car and was helped by marshals, but X-rays at the circuit’s medical center revealed he did not suffer any broken bones.

A Haas spokesperson said, “Due to the 50G impact, he underwent an X-ray examination at the medical center. There were no broken bones. It was a right knee contusion after the impact.”

The team later added in a social media post that Bearman was “okay.”

The accident brought out a safety car that affected the race, allowing Kimi Antonelli to overtake Oscar Piastri and George Russell and take the lead.
