Chelsea need a big boost against Aston Villa

Highlights of the Women’s Super League match between London City Lionesses and Chelsea

Chelsea vs Aston Villa – Sunday, 12pm kick-off, live on Sky Sports

Sunday’s match against Aston Villa comes at a key moment in Chelsea’s season.

They are in the middle of two games against Arsenal in the Champions League, but lost 3-1 in the first leg on Tuesday. And after last weekend’s 1-1 draw with London City, they have fallen down the table in the race to compete in Europe next season.

Sunday, March 29th 11:30am

Kickoff at 12pm

The Blues need big performances and big results on their return to Kingsmeadow not only to boost their confidence heading into Wednesday’s second leg, but also to keep pace with the teams around them in the top four.

It’s not going to be easy for Aston Villa, but they’ve been enjoying their away games lately. Under coach Natalia Arroyo, the Reds have won more points on the road (20 points) than at home (15 points) and have conceded just one goal in their last two away games.

But in the end, these are the games that Chelsea should win, we expect to win and it is vital that we achieve that this weekend.

Is there a possibility that the relegation battle will be decided by goal difference?

West Ham vs London City Lionesses – Sunday, 12pm kick-off, live on Sky Sports

The last time these two sides met, London City Lionesses won 1-0 thanks to a roar from goalkeeper Kinga Shemik. This result confirms that West Ham are candidates for relegation and London City are not.

West Ham were unbeaten at the time but are now in a slightly better position. Rita Guarino has steadied the ship somewhat, but their position remains precarious.

Women’s Super League highlights of Arsenal vs. West Ham United

This year, the relegation battle will be decided based on goal difference, with the lowest teams going through a relegation play-off. Leicester and West Ham are tied at -26 and -25 respectively, with three points separating the teams.

West Ham’s 5-0 defeat to Arsenal last time out spoke to the need not just to pick up points, but to lose “properly” if we lose. The last time the Hammers lost by that margin was against Chelsea in January, which sparked a mini-resurgence in terms of wins and points.

Guarino will be hoping for history to repeat itself rather than a come-from-behind game against London City.

Leicester look to right their mistakes against Brighton

Leicester v Brighton – Sunday, 12pm kick-off, live on Sky Sports

Leicester will be looking to bounce back from last weekend’s 2-1 home defeat to Aston Villa when they face Brighton, with a relegation play-off looming.

Women’s Super League match highlights between Leicester City and Aston Villa

The Foxes currently sit bottom of the WSL, three points behind West Ham with five games in hand, and could face either Birmingham City, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United or Bristol City in the play-offs.

In their last five games, Rick Passmoor’s side have conceded 14 goals while scoring just two goals.

This follows a more worrying trend for the Foxes, who have only scored a league-low nine goals this season and conceded 35.

Highlights of the Women’s Super League match between Brighton and Liverpool

Leicester will be hoping to right some wrongs since the Foxes last played Brighton in November. They lost 4-1 in that game, with Shannon O’Brien scoring the winning goal that day.

A win could be crucial for both teams as Brighton move up to eighth place with one point ahead of Villa, while a win of one or more would see Leicester move ahead of West Ham and move them down the table.
