The Premier League has secured five spots for next season’s Champions League.

Arsenal secured an extra spot with a 1-0 win over Sporting in the quarter-final first leg, so a fifth place finish will be enough to qualify for the Champions League.

This is the second year in a row that the Premier League has won an extra spot, and it has taken the Premier League to the top of the European standings.

Liverpool currently sit fifth in the Premier League, with Arne Slott’s side just one point behind sixth-placed Chelsea.

However, there is a possibility that more England players will appear in next year’s Champions League.

If Aston Villa, currently in fourth place, win the Europa League and finish outside of fourth place, England will have six teams competing in Europe’s top competition.

The same scenario applies to Liverpool in the Champions League.

If either side wins the European trophy and finishes fifth, sixth place will qualify for the Champions League. If both sides win the European trophy and finish fifth and sixth, seventh place will qualify for the Champions League.

Nottingham Forest could play in the Champions League again next season if they win the Europa League.

Who can claim the second additional Champions League spot?

With UEFA giving extra spots to two leagues, one of which is guaranteed to the Premier League, the battle for the other spot will begin.

Spain are on track to sign him ahead of Germany and Portugal.

UEFA coefficient table (April 7th)

1. England (Q) – 25.013 2. Spain – 20.281 3. Germany – 19.714 4. Portugal – 18.900 5. Italy – 18.714

How do coefficient tables work?

Countries are awarded points based on their clubs’ performance in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League.

That total points is then divided by the number of clubs participating in European competitions and compiled into a table, ranking each country by average score.

A win is worth 2 coefficient points, a draw is worth 1, and a loss is worth nothing.

In addition, bonus points will be awarded depending on your finishing position in the league phase table and your progress in each knockout round.

The Champions League bonus points are much higher compared to the other two competitions.

The team that finishes top of the Champions League phase table will receive 12 bonus points. In contrast, a team that finishes top of the Europa League phase table will receive 6 points, and a team that finishes top of the Conference League phase table will receive 4 points.
