Tyson Fury and Arslanbek Makhmudov stepped on the scales ahead of their heavyweight bout at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
It will be Fury’s first fight since losing a rematch to Oleksandr Usyk at the end of 2024. He missed all of last year, ending his brief retirement.
However, his condition and form will be closely monitored as he returns to action at the age of 37. He weighed 267.9 pounds, down from 281 pounds (albeit with clothes on) in his rematch with Usyk.
“Every time in camp it gets a little bit harder,” Fury told Netflix. “As I get older and have more injuries, father time doesn’t wait for anyone. It gets a little harder every time, but I still have enough strength. If I retire four or five more times, I should be fine.”
“My priority is to take this guy down. I have a lot of Easter eggs in the fridge. If anyone has this belt, please return it to me.”
“I was undefeated for 17 years. That was a long time. I took it for granted. I lost two in a row and I was once again the hunter instead of the chaser. Back in 2015, it feels great to be a young, fresh, clean-shaven kid again.”
“Let’s get rid of this big guy and then we’ll get the other big guy.”
Mahmudov is a veteran heavyweight contender with a two-loss record, but has many early finishes and a KO rate of over 90 percent.
Compared to Fury’s typical bombast, he was only soft-spoken in the lead-up to the fight. But he was a big man and looked scary when he weighed 264.9 pounds.
“I’m ready. I can’t wait to make my story come true and my dreams come true,” Mahmudov said.
“It’s my dream and my era.
“When I was 9 years old, my uncle told me I was going to be like Muhammad Ali or Mike Tyson.
“I can go 12 or 20 rounds in this fight, no problem.”
Conor Benn weighed in at 149.5 pounds, under the 150-pound catchweight limit, in his first fight since returning from middleweight, and fought Chris Eubank Jr. twice at 156.4 and 159.3 pounds.
“I definitely could have done 147, but you won’t know until you try,” Ben said.
“Everyone has experience, Van Heerden has experience, Algieri has experience, Samuel Vargas, Sebastian Formera, it’s my job to go in there and prove that I’m at that level continuously.
“I have been training with middleweight fighters in the gym, and I am excited to fight someone my own size for the first time.”
American opponent Regis Prograis moved up from super lightweight to come in at a slightly lighter weight of 148.1 pounds in his first fight since his unanimous decision win over Joseph Diaz in August.
“I think it comes down to level. I was a two-time world champion and the best in the world,” Prograis said. “I have nothing to gain from Conor Benn, but I do think I’m the better fighter.
“When I look in his eyes, he’s definitely ready, I’m definitely ready. I think he can bring out things we’ve never seen before.”
Richard Liakpore stepped on the scale ahead of his British heavyweight title fight against defending champion Jimmy ‘TKV’ Chikeba at 262.7lbs and weighed in at 234.12lbs.
“(Being down to cruiserweight previously) was crazy. Considering how many miles I had to run without meals, I would not eat for days before a fight and just have a salad,” Liakpolge said.
“British Champion, it’s a legendary belt to have in your name. It means something and I’m delighted to be a part of it.”
Fraser Clarke, on the other hand, weighed in at 259.12 pounds to face Australia’s Justice Houni, and was the lighter of the two at 246.14 pounds in his first fight since being knocked out by Fabio Wardley last June.
Clark is looking for a come-from-behind victory after missing out on the British title with a loss to TKV.
“I don’t feel any pressure. I’m excited. If you’re not excited and enjoying what you’re doing, you’re never going to be great at it. Since moving to Joe (Gallagher), the excitement and positivity comes through on Saturday nights.”
“People’s memories are short, but I’m a good fighter and I’ll prove it on Saturday. We know he can box, he looked good in every fight, apart from the loss at Wardley, but I can box.”
