Bournemouth 2 – 0 N Forest

Bournemouth moved to second place in the Premier League with a 2-0 victory in Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche’s first league match.

Marcus Tavernier scored directly from a corner kick in the first half, goalkeeper Mats Sells flicked a set-piece that should have been a goal kick, and just before half-time Eli Junior Crupi scored his fourth goal in three league games.

Daiche, who had been shown a yellow card in the first half, was furious at the decision to award him a corner kick. He told Sky Sports: “Everyone knows it’s a goal kick. It’s really tough for us as coaches when the linesman gives a goal kick and the referee, who can’t see it, turns it down. That’s really tough for me.”

“Sometimes you have to throw your hands up because it’s a really cute moment.”

Bournemouth are currently unbeaten in eight Premier League games and continue to exceed expectations under manager Andoni Iraola, helping them make their best ever start to a top-flight season.

It’s a different story for Nottingham Forest, who have not won a league game since the start of the season and are unable to build on their win over Porto in the Europa League in midweek, leaving them in the bottom three.

How Bournemouth got through Forest with ease

Team news:

Bournemouth striker Evanilsson has been ruled out again due to a calf injury. Nottingham Forest were also without talisman Chris Wood due to a knee injury.

Bournemouth dominated from start to finish, with Sels making early saves to deny Tavernier and Antoine Semenho, before the match boiled over until a collision between Justin Kluivert and Douglas Lewis resulted in both players being shown yellow cards.

Despite the controversy, the home team deservedly took the lead in the 25th minute. Bournemouth were awarded a corner kick even though Tavernier appeared to have scored the final touch after being tackled by Neco Williams.

Bournemouth took the lead with Marcus Tavernier’s corner kick, but should they have been given one in the first place?

Tavernier then curled a set-piece over Sells, who fired with his right hand under slight pressure from Tyler Adams as the ball went in.

Forest had just one shot on target in the first half, Williams’ shot from the edge of the area, but Crupi added Bournemouth’s second goal. Referee Sam Barot took the advantage when Adams was fouled by Elliott Anderson, and Crupi advanced into space with the ball and fired a shot that dipped into the bottom left corner.

Eli Junior Crupi scored Bournemouth’s second goal with a fine finish against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League.

Dyche made three changes at half-time, and although Bournemouth improved in the second half with three shots on target compared to none, the hosts faced little trouble.

Djordje Petrovic’s only significant save came late on a curling effort from Morgan Gibbs-White as the hosts cruised to victory.

Player rating:

Bournemouth: Petrovic (7); Jimenez (7), Milosavljevic (7), Senesi (7), Trufat (7). Scott (7), Adams (7). Tavernier (8), Kluivert (6), Semenyo (6). Crupi (8).

Subs: Adli (6), Brooks (6), Christie (6), Unal (n/a), Cook (n/a).

Nottingham Forest: Sells (5); Savona (6), Milenkovic (6), Murillo (6), Williams (6). Lewis (5), Anderson (6). Ndoye (6), Gibbs-White (6), Hudson-Odoi (5). Igor Jesus (5).

Subs: Awonyi (6), Yates (6), Hutchinson (6), Dominguez (N/A), Karim Endo (N/A)

Best Player: Marcus Tavernier

Daichi has doubts about Forest’s physical strength.

Nottingham Forest head coach Sean Dyche told Sky Sports:

“The biggest disappointment was the decline in physicality. The team pressed very high and we didn’t understand it at all. We warned the players. We informed them about that aspect. In the first half, we were just obedient.”

“Some players have to get used to our fitness level, but we asked them a lot and the story remains the same. They absorbed a lot of work this week, cramming into a few weeks what they would normally do in five days.”

“We’ve been asking for a lot and the first half wasn’t quite where we wanted it to be physically. We also just questioned our opponents, too many passes in behind, allowing them to come press and chase us and get a feel for the game. “We had a couple of really, really poor goals.

“To be clear, I’m not questioning other managers, because I don’t like it. This is how I work and how I want my team to work. It’s difficult. We have limited working days and so many games, so we have to find a way to get there.”

The story of the game in terms of statistics…
