“She hasn’t done anything.”
Caroline Dubois left Terry Harper speechless.
The Londoner unleashed a salvo of cruel trash talk on the three-division world champion while his rivals filmed the latest episode of The Gloves Are Off.
Harper couldn’t hide her disbelief. After all, the Yorkshirewoman is more than just the current WBO lightweight world champion. She also previously held major super featherweight and super welterweight titles.
She was angry to see her accomplishments being disrespected. “Tell me what you did. Another stupid comment,” she replied.
But Harper was angry.
The WBO champion warned Dubois, the undefeated holder of the WBC belt, not to make the mistake that would get her fired.
“To think she’s going to ignore me and let me sleep and let her take the belt,” Harper said.
She told Dubois: “I’m here to give you your first taste of defeat, bounce back and see how it feels.
“She has a lot of work to do to grow.”
But Dubois maintained his icy ferocity. She told Harper directly: “I don’t judge you. I don’t judge what you’ve done, I don’t judge who you are as an athlete, as a fighter, as a person. I don’t judge that.”
“I believe that respect is earned, not given. I don’t think she has earned my respect. She wants me to come and be nice to her,” Dubois added. “And I don’t mean that.”
The unification fight between the two men for the WBC and WBO titles, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports on Sunday 5 April, is becoming increasingly personal, as evidenced by the pair’s head-to-head showdown in front of the cameras at The Globes Are Off and the lingering feud that ensued.
“For me, this fight is not about the belt. Winning the belt is great, but beating Dubois is even greater,” Harper declared.
The WBC champion was determined to back Harper. “When I look at her, I think she’s a very pathetic person,” Dubois said.
But she added, “This woman is coming to take my belt, she’s coming to take everything I’ve fought for since I was 9 years old, she’s coming to take away my legacy that I believe I can leave behind, and of course my future.”
“If she wins, she gets everything.”
Watch The Gloves Are Off: Caroline Dubois vs. Terry Harper on Sunday from 6.30pm on Sky Sports Main Event and Sky Sports Action.
