Claressa Shields believes Caroline Dubois can follow in her footsteps and become a multi-weight world champion.
American superstar Shields, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, is the undisputed heavyweight champion, but has also held titles at super welterweight, middleweight and super middleweight.
Although Shields is six years older than Dubois and has much more professional experience, the American champion has some similarities with the young Brit.
“I’m so proud of Caroline. I’m like her biggest fan,” Shields told Sky Sports. “I see a lot of myself in her and I’ve been talking to her and I’m really happy for her to have a big game.”
Dubois will face Terry Harper in a WBC/WBO lightweight world title unification bout on Sunday, April 5th, live on Sky Sports.
“I have nothing against Terry Harper. I’m just a fan of young Caroline and I want to see her become a multiple world champion firsthand,” Shields said.
“She’s got plenty of talent. All she has to do is fight the best, keep growing, keep getting better, never compromise, just keep pushing.
“I think she’s a great role model and I love her own aspirations. She sees greatness in herself, respects the game, and continues to learn and get better. I love what I see from her.”
He added, “If anyone can beat Alicia Baumgardner, it’s Caroline Dubois. Listen, she’s worth considering.”
Shields sees Dubois progressing from this fight and moving past the breakup.
“It’s difficult to be an undisputed champion. I believe she can do it. But I also believe she can be a multi-division world champion,” the American said.
“I think that’s definitely going to be her future. She’s tall, long, lanky and has power, and that power translates to multiple weight classes.
“She can turn people’s lights out. I’m not sober enough to do that yet!”
