Emma Raducanu has parted ways with coach Francis Roig after working with the Spaniard for just six months.

Raducanu’s decision came a week after she withdrew in the second round of the Australian Open, after which she said she was considering playing in a “different way”.

The 23-year-old confirmed her split with Roig, who coached Rafael Nadal, in an Instagram post on Thursday.

“Francis, thank you for spending time with me. You are more than a coach to me and I will cherish the many good times we shared on the court,” Raducanu wrote.

“Although I have come to the conclusion that we should not move forward, please know that I am so grateful for everything you have taught me and I love the time we have shared.”

Since her stunning victory at the 2021 US Open, Raducanu has struggled with injuries and has faced numerous coaching changes, failing to reach the top of the women’s world.

She had been in good form working with Andy Murray’s former coach Mark Petchey on a temporary arrangement in early 2025, but they hired Roig in August in search of a new permanent player.

Raducanu’s performance under Roig was largely disappointing, as he failed to win more than two matches in any tournament he participated in during their time together.

Roig worked with Nadal’s uncle, Toni, for much of the 22-time Grand Slam champion’s career, and then as part of Matteo Berrettini’s team.

Raducanu is scheduled to play at the Transylvania Open in Romania next week, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports Tennis.

It remains to be seen whether the Englishman is able to overcome the injury problems that have kept him out of action for more than two months before the start of the new season.
