Henry Arundel, who avoided a red card in England’s Guinness Six Nations defeat to Scotland, will play on a free transfer against Ireland on Saturday.

Arundel were shown two yellow cards in the first half of their 31-20 loss to Murrayfield in the second round, the second of which resulted in a 20-minute red card and was cited.

However, at a disciplinary hearing held on Tuesday, it was decided that “the player’s sending off is a sufficient sanction, and no further sanction is appropriate.”

Arundel were initially penalized for breakdown offense and given their marching orders just before half-time for taking Scotland winger Kyle Steyn into the air.

At the hearing, the 23-year-old winger admitted committing the foul play for both yellow cards, and the committee upheld the subsequent red card.

It was then decided that he should not receive any further punishment, taking into account the circumstances that “the first yellow card was issued for a ‘technical violation’ and the second yellow card was issued for a completely different offense.”

Following the ruling, Arundel retained his place on England’s wing for Saturday’s Six Nations match against Ireland and has scored four tries in his two starts in the Six Nations, including a hat-trick in the opening game against Wales.
