Hull KR head coach Willie Peters has been involved in many derby matches throughout his playing and coaching career, but says nothing compares to the one between the Robins and Hull FC.

The Good Friday meeting between Hull KR and Hull FC, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, will mark the 250th time the two Hull clubs have met each other.

You have to go back to 1899 to find the first installations between East and West Hull. This match was at Hull KR’s home ground and the Robins emerged victorious.

Looking at the statistics for Super League alone, the two teams have faced each other 50 times so far. Hull KR won 26 of those matches and Hull FC won 24 of them.

Speaking to Jenna Brooks on Sky Sports’ The Bench podcast, Hull KR’s Jez and Hull FC’s Davey Litten discuss who their families will support when the cousins meet.

The question of which derby is the biggest is always raging. Fans will vigorously defend their rivalry as the biggest in the sport, or even the world.

Throughout his career, Peters has been involved in several iconic clashes on both sides of the world. As a player, he played St Helens against Wigan, Sydney and St George’s against Cronulla.

Having been a part of all of these rivalries, Peters remains steadfast in his belief that the Hull derby is the biggest of them all, and there has never been a bigger week ahead of the 250th meeting to confirm that belief.

“Derby week is very important. It’s the 250th Derby so we know what we’re going to get and they know what they’re going to get,” Peters said.

“It’s going to be a tumultuous atmosphere here, there’s no bigger derby than this.

“I’ve been involved in some big derbies and been involved in some big derbies over the years.

“I was at Wigan against the Saints, I was at the Rabbitohs against the Roosters, I was at St George’s against Cronulla, that’s the biggest thing.

“No matter where you sit at the table, no matter where we sit, it’s always a good game and it’s always a fun week.

I’m really looking forward to it.
