Jamie Carragher has named the best team in the Premier League so far on Monday Night Football.

Sky Sports pundits appeared on the last Monday Night Football of the year, when Nottingham Forest lost to Fulham, and selected their best squad for the 2025-26 season so far.

A Seasonal Statistics Team and a Seasonal Fa-Analysis Team have also been selected in parallel to Carra’s version. Vote for the team you think is the best in the poll below.

Find out who was chosen and why…

Jamie Carragher’s team of the season

“I’m going to use Sunderland goalkeeper Robin Roofs. I’m really impressed with him. He’s had a bright start to Sunderland’s Premier League career with the second-best xG defense and the best defensive record in the league. He’s been a big part of that. It was emblematic of what they tried to do in the summer as well, this kind of very ruthless approach in bringing in 14 new players.

“I would say the right-back position is probably the most difficult. I almost put in Timber, who I’m a big fan of. Also, Reece James, he was outstanding, but a lot of his football was played in central midfield. But every time I see this guy, it’s great. I should add that he was part of a really strong defensive unit until the last few games when he wasn’t involved. But I think he’s got three goals, a couple of assists too. He’s great – Daniel Muñoz.

“Mark Gehi – It was also a battle between him and[Maxence]Lacroix. I was really impressed with Crystal Palace, but I chose Guehi. He also scored a few other goals. But Gabriel, yeah. , he’s missed a few games as well. But I think this season he’ll get back to that goal he scored for Newcastle. ‘Leadership, how’ he was good defensively as well, so I think they need him back soon.

“I thought[Ricciardo]Calafioli actually almost lost his place a little bit at the end of last season when Miles Lewis-Skelly came in. He was so good that I actually put him in my team of the season last season. That’s why I think he scored his first goal at Old Trafford to earn that starting position. And he can come in as well because he’s not just a left-back, he appears all over the pitch.

“Formation-wise, we went with a standard 4-2-3-1, so we decided to put (Granito) Xhaka and (Declan) Rice in there. The other guy we would have brought in was (Moises) Caicedo, but it was a really difficult game. I didn’t want to have all three because I don’t think they’re very defensive, but I’d like to have an attacking midfield player there. I said I think that’s the case.

“But I felt that the impact of Xhaka this season was the biggest impact of the contract and the impact on the team. I felt that he was very important for Sunderland, so I thought he had to be in the team. So I feel sorry for the Chelsea fans, you seem to be doing well! But no, we couldn’t find space for Caicedo for those reasons. Also, Bull We had to bring No Fernandes in. They’re going to miss him, but he’s not going to miss too much.”But I mean, if you look at his numbers, he’s created the most chances in the Premier League, probably got the most assists, and I think he’s definitely the outstanding chance creator in the Premier League, even though he’s playing from a deeper position.

“(Erling) Haaland is almost certainly. He’s far above everyone, 19 goals in 17 games. He’s far above any striker. In his first season, he would have had over 40 (goals), right? He was certainly close to that, so he’s on track to break that record. It’s Mori. You’ve got Morgan Rodgers on that left side. It’s been interesting to see Rodgers and (Antoine) Semenho in there. They’ve both had great seasons, but I don’t think there were a lot of wide players.

“(Jeremy) Doku has been really good, Phil Foden too. But no, I think Rodgers is probably the most in-form player in the Premier League. And Semenyo, he’s probably been a little out of form in the last few weeks. There was a lot of talk about him leaving, but he’s also scored some goals in the last few games. It’s been a great start to the Premier League season.”

Who are the best three players so far this season?

“Haaland and Rice are definitely going to be the two that stand out right away, and I think Rodgers is just riding on their tail in a way. If you’re talking about player of the year or something like that, or player of the year at an intermediate point, it’s going to be a toss-up between Rice or Haaland.”
