Mark Wood will undergo preventive tests on Friday after suffering a hamstring strain on the first day of England’s Ashes warm-up match against the Lions.

Wood has been out of action for the past nine months following knee surgery, but returned on the opening day of the internal Ashes pre-season game at Perth’s Lilac Hill.

The 35-year-old quick bowler had completed eight overs (four in each session) before tea, but felt discomfort during his second practice and left the field in mid-afternoon.

The ECB confirmed that Wood would undergo a precautionary test on Friday, adding: The England fast bowler completed eight overs with the ball during the afternoon session and spent time away from the field.

“He’s going to bowl again in two days.”
