Jannik Sinner made ATP Masters 1000 history by defeating Corentin Moutet in the third round of the Miami Open, breaking Novak Djokovic’s record.
The Italian needed just 71 minutes to defeat Moutet 6-1, 6-4 inside Hard Rock Stadium, booking a fourth-round clash with American Alex Michelsen.
Sinner’s third-round victory meant he achieved 26 consecutive set wins at Masters 1000 level, breaking the previous record of 24 sets held by Djokovic since 2016.

“I’m very happy,” Sinner said after the win. “This sport is unpredictable, so we’re trying to stay as careful as possible. We’ll see what happens in the next round.”
Sinner won the Paris Masters and Indian Wells Masters titles in November without dropping a set and entered the tournament as the second seed, equaling Djokovic’s record with a second-round win over Damir Dzumhur.
It could be extended further on Tuesday against unseeded Mikkelsen, who came back from a set down to defeat Alejandro Tabilo of Chile 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.
Sinner is aiming to become the first player since Roger Federer in 2017 to win the Sunshine Double of Indian Wells and Miami in the same year, but Carlos Alcaraz’s third-round exit on Sunday means he can further close the gap on the Spaniard in the race for world number one.

Third seed Alexander Zverev defeated Marin Cilic 6-2, 5-7, 6-4 and will next face Quentin Harris, while Argentina’s Francisco Cerundro advanced to the fourth round with a 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 win over Daniil Medvedev.
