Michaela Mayer targets Chantel Cameron unification fight and Claressa Shields by early 2027 | Boxing News

Mikaela Mayer is eyeing a unification bout with Chantel Cameron later this year, targeting “big names only.”

Mayer, who signed a three-year deal with Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions last month, is the current WBC and WBA super welterweight world champion and also holds the WBO welterweight title.

But she has been forced to vacate her WBO title as part of an exciting all-women’s bill that sees Cameron Dubois take on Terry Harper live on Sky Sports this Sunday night as Cameron takes on Mikaela Kotaskova.

“All I want is a big name. Maybe this is the last contract I sign so this could be it. I only want the biggest superfight I can get,” Mayer told Sky Sports News.

“Chantelle Cameron is up there, Lauren Price is definitely up there, and Claressa Shields is there too. If we can get those three in a row, that would be ideal. But in boxing, you never know what’s going to happen. You have to roll with the punches. Things change all the time.”

This Sunday, Chantel Cameron will face Mikaela Kotaskova in 10 three-minute rounds for the WBO super welterweight title.

When asked if Caroline Dubois would also be an option or if Cameron is more likely, she said, “Chantelle Cameron. She’s fighting for the 154-pound belt that I gave back this weekend. I still have two other 154-pound belts, so if she wins this weekend, we could have a big unification fight.”

“I’m not against Caroline Dubois. She’s currently at 135, but there are some big names that I really want to make it through. Lauren Price is one of them, and she’s undisputed at 147. I’m here to put on a fight that the fans want to see, so don’t say never.”

MVP co-founder Nakisa Bidalyan added, “Michaela is a phenomenal superstar in the United States, so bringing these two together will be a shock.”

“If that is what Chantel and Michaela want, we will do everything we can to make it happen.”

Meyer hopes to acquire SEALs by early 2027

Another goal for Mayer is a superfight with American compatriot Claressa Shields, the undisputed heavyweight champion.

Mayer and Shields were teammates on the 2016 U.S. Olympic team, with the former winning lightweight boxing and the latter winning his second middleweight gold medal at the Brazil Games.

After becoming the unified professional world champion at super featherweight, Mayer moved through the weight classes and won the WBO welterweight title.

Shields had an undefeated professional career, winning world championships at super welterweight, middleweight, super middleweight, and most recently, heavyweight. She defeated Danielle Perkins in February to become women’s boxing’s first undisputed heavyweight champion.

Mayer said, “We’ve been friends for a long time, so I don’t know how close we’ll be once the fight is over. We don’t know, but we’re both fighters at heart, so we’ll see how it affects our friendship.”

“It’s going to be a great fight. I have the work rate, size and skill I have now, so I’m really hoping to get it done by early next year if possible.”

Mayer: Dubois beats Harper on points

This Sunday’s all-female card will be headlined by Dubois, who will fight Harper for the WBC and WBO lightweight world titles at London’s Olympia.

The relationship has been heated, with the pair exchanging verbal abuse and Harper pushing her rival down during a photo shoot earlier this week.

Mayer, who is used to weeks of tense matches, said women’s boxing “needs rivalries” to continue to grow and said she expected Dubois to win.

Tensions rose between Terry Harper and Caroline Dubois as Sunday’s unification game approached

“It’s going to be a great fight. If I had to pick a winner, I might have to pick Caroline Dubois, just because of her amateur pedigree. She’s a really good boxer, but Terry Harper has always given us the fights we want to see.”

“She’s never been afraid to get in the ring with a strong opponent. You see that on her resume. So you can’t ignore her. You can’t count her out.”

“It’s definitely going to be a decision. Caroline is probably the better boxer, technically a better boxer. I don’t think she’ll stop Terry Harper.”
