Newcastle manager Eddie Howe can’t do anything more, the club has let him down, says Jamie Carragher after Brentford defeat | Soccer News

Jamie Carragher believes Eddie Howe “can’t do much more” at Newcastle and believes he should consider a move to England if Thomas Tuchel leaves in the summer.

Newcastle’s home winless streak in the Premier League was extended to 10 games as Brentford came from behind to beat G-Tech 3-1.

In the lead-up to the match, Howe was under pressure following an “unacceptable” performance in the final league game against West Ham.

And following this latest setback, Carragher believes Howe has taken Newcastle as far as possible and believes it would be the perfect move for him if the England job becomes available after the World Cup.

Carragher told Sky Sports: “Whenever he leaves the club as one of Newcastle’s great managers, he will step down. If you look at what he did when the team were bottom of the table, he came in that first season and stabilized things.”

“Then his second season was out of this world as we won Champions League football and played against Manchester United in the League Cup final. “The following season was another really good one, with an exciting team up front and we finished seventh.

“And what we saw last season was winning the League Cup and the Champions League again.

“I’ve been supporting Eddie Howe as the next England manager. He’s a great coach and I think he’s England’s best coach by a million miles.”

“I love him dearly but four years on I don’t think Eddie Howe can do any better than what he’s done at Newcastle.

“I don’t think Newcastle are going to win the Premier League, so I don’t think there’s anything more he can do. And it’s not just talking about Newcastle being a few points away from the relegation zone or questioning the manager in any way. But I think Newcastle have let him down.”

“The nature of the club as a sporting director is very fast-paced for everyone behind the scenes.

“Sometimes it feels like he’s out there alone. The big Saudi investments haven’t really started.

“Now they may have doubts about the PSR and the rules, which is all understandable. But when you put players like Yoan Wissa in the second half and saw how he had to deal in the summer with the[Alexander]Isak situation, I felt something.”

“It’s been a real turmoil at Newcastle and when you talk about one of the greatest managers in their history, I think he deserves better.

“And if you think about what Eddie Howe thinks, if the England job comes up in the summer after the World Cup with Tuchel’s contract situation, I’ll be right there.

“Because, like I said, I think he’s disappointed and I don’t think he can take Newcastle any further than he has done so far.”

Guimarães: we must unite

Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimarães has called on the club to ‘stand together’

Newcastle captain Bruno Guimarães has appealed for everyone at the club to come together, saying the current situation is the worst he has been at the club.

“In almost four years at the club, we are probably going through one of the most difficult times. As in life, you can’t always be on top,” he said on Instagram.

“But times like these require us to come together and never let go of each other.

“The first part of the season did not go as expected. After the break, we need to find the chemistry that has carried us all this time. I can assure you that we are as sad as the fans.”
