Swansea scored in the 90th minute after Wrexham’s goalkeeper spilled the ball on a simple catch.

Swansea hit back in the second half when Zan Vipotnik’s wide deflected shot evaded Okonkwo and came close to Wrexham’s goal.

The winning goal came in the 90th minute when substitute Adam Idah fired home from close range after Okonkwo failed to collect the ball cleanly and let it fall at his feet.

Substitute Ayda scores as Swansea fight back to surprise Wrexham.

It was the first league match between the two clubs since 2003, when Wrexham visited Swansea’s former home, Vetch Field.

Since then, both clubs have progressed through the league, with Swansea spending seven years in the Premier League from 2011 to 2018 and Wrexham emerging from non-league football to achieve three successive promotions and now back in the second tier.

Swansea equalized in the game against Wrexham with a goal from Zan Vipotnik.

Swansea also fought back and in the end Vipotnik’s desire to shoot and good fortune rewarded the hosts’ efforts.

Things got even better for Swansea as Okonkwo roamed around the area and let out an Ida roar to seal their first league win over Wrexham in 32 years.

managers

Swansea’s Vitor Matos:

“It was a derby and there are moments like this in games like this, we started the game a little nervous and unsure and then we got an own goal.

“But what was more important to us than the result was how we recovered from the situation we were in.

“Adam is a striker and has a hunger to score. He wanted to influence the game, so I’m really happy for him. He helped the team and the impact a player has when coming off the bench is huge.”

Phil Parkinson from Wrexham:

“It’s very frustrating. It’s difficult to legally regulate the two goals that went against us tonight. The first one was a double deflection and the second one I feel sorry for Arthur, because he has been outstanding for us, not just this season but the last few seasons.”

“We feel bad for him tonight, but that’s one of those moments that should never go behind our net. It’s tough to lose a game.

“We wouldn’t have gotten this far without his contribution and he’s made some great saves in important moments this season. He’ll need to be picked up, but we’ll pick him up and get him ready for the Boxing Day game.”
