Great Britain secured its second gold medal at the 2026 Winter Olympics with Hugh Nightingale and Charlotte Banks winning the mixed team snowboard cross event.

Two days after Matt Weston finally got Team GB onto the medal board in Milan-Cortina with skeleton gold, Nightingale and Banks put in a superb performance to take top spot in Livigno.

In doing so, the 2023 world champions will become Britain’s first Olympic gold medal winners on snow.

After getting through the quarter-finals and semi-finals with impressive performances, the duo defeated Italy in the final to win gold, with Banks moving from second place, decided by Nightingale to France in the first round, to first place midway through the deciding race.

Banks hounded her French opponent Lea Casta midway through the decisive battle, who ultimately fell back to the bronze medal spot.

The gold medal marked a remarkable comeback for both athletes after disappointing results in their respective individual events earlier in the competition.

However, they were not without hope and went into a team race where the women started at intervals determined by the results of the previous men’s race.

Their medal follows previous bronze medals won by Jenny Jones, Billy Morgan and Izzy Atkin, and is the highest ever for Britain on snow.
