Tottenham closed the gap to a place in the top eight of the Champions League with a 3-0 win over Slavia Prague.

Manager Thomas Frank said he wanted his side to build on their momentum after Saturday’s 2-0 win at Brentford, which moved to ninth after David Zima’s own goal and penalties from Mohamed Kudus and Xavi Simons secured all three points.

Liverpool’s late win against Inter Milan at San Siro cost Spurs any chance of progressing into the top eight, with Arne Slott’s side occupying the last spot for automatic qualification to the next stage.

Although he didn’t make it to the top eight, his newfound confidence as a result of his improved form was evident from the start.

Richarlison and Kudus were close early on, but the former was denied from close range in the first minute, but the breakthrough came when Cristian Romero’s header from a corner found Jima to take a deserved lead.

Spurs are up 100 in the Champions League…

Tottenham’s opening goal, David Zima’s own goal, was his 100th goal in 59 games in the UEFA Champions League.

A quick start after the restart led to the second goal of the night. Pedro Polo was caught late on by Youssoufa Sanyang in the box as he tried to block the full-back’s cross, and Kudus confidently stepped up and scored from the spot.

A perfect night at the office for the home team ended with Simmons winning and converting the penalty to make it three points for the night.

Victory means Spurs move up from 16th in the Champions League table, but all eyes will immediately turn to Sunday’s clash with Nottingham Forest at the City Ground, which will be broadcast on Sky Sports, as Frank’s side aim for three wins from three.

Player evaluation: Kudus class as Spurs Cruise
