Strong palace, strong England?!
Tyrick Mitchell is the latest Crystal Palace player to be tipped to play a key role for England at next summer’s World Cup.
“If he continues to play like this, I’m sure he’ll be considered for England at the World Cup because he’s in very good form,” Glasner said after the left wing-back impressed in Palace’s 2-1 win over Fulham on Super Sunday.
Palace players play key roles in the national team, with match-winner Marc Guehi being one of the first names on England manager Thomas Tuchel’s team sheet, Dean Henderson guaranteed to be in the squad and Adam Wharton starting his last game for England after a “masterclass” performance in midfield at Craven Cottage, according to Sky Sports’ Jamie Redknapp.
It’s no exaggeration to say that left-back has long been a problematic position, with no player making a convincing enough case for the position yet. Mitchell, who won two England caps in 2022, is now 26 years old and is developing into a player who can provide solutions both in and out of possession.

Another fun night at the cottage, but another loss to Fulham.
I feel Fulham are a team that is doing the right thing. They certainly did the right thing last weekend against Tottenham, leading 2-0. They did a lot of good things when they gave Man City a huge scare in a thrilling 5-on-4 game on Tuesday. And, as manager Marco Silva said, they were “dominating” in key plays against Crystal Palace.
The 2-1 defeat in the derby may have resulted in a narrow offside ruling against Samuel Chukwueze, with Emile Smith Rowe’s goal ruled out at 1-1. Silva thought Chukwueze’s toenails were too big. But the margins are working against his team at the moment.
Despite the bright spots, the game sometimes lacks a decisive element. Harry Wilson, who scored a wonder goal early on Sunday, explained that even if they didn’t win the game they shouldn’t lose. But they did. They have lost seven of their last 10 Premier League games.
Fulham are languishing in 15th place. No one expects them to be embroiled in a relegation battle, but despite some encouraging performances, their league goals could slip away if results catch up with them.

Fernandes of shining light
Matheus Fernandes is worth £40m, the third-highest fee West Ham have ever paid for a player.
The 21-year-old is still in his infancy, but there are signs that the Hammers may have just unearthed the kind of midfield dynamo and playmaker that has been sorely lacking in recent seasons.
Fernandes showed his true colors at Brighton, providing a rare modern midfield blend. He can dribble and carry forward and has a sweet passing range, but he can also press, chase, tackle and defend when needed.
His role in linking defense and attack, looking to break through the lines rather than staying in midfield, gave West Ham a huge foothold in a game that came minutes away from a glorious away win.
He had the most touches of any West Ham player, made more tackles than anyone on the pitch (eight) and picked up five fouls as Brighton were unable to get to him. When he was sent off with seven minutes remaining, the Hammers took a step back.

Brighton have problems with low blocking.
Brighton are still a team that has problems playing against low blocks. Fabian Hürzeler’s side shine when opponents are involved, but often look oddly short of ideas when faced with a team that refuses to dance.
They have had more possession than their opponents in their last 22 games, but have won only five of them, and were lucky to end up drawing with West Ham due to a lack of attacking imagination.
West Ham’s aggressive play, which left Brighton’s backline open many times, further highlighted the issue of a style of play that left a tactical burden on the backline. One mistake, one transition and the game can be shaken up.
Brighton feel they are missing one more unpredictable attacker, even if the puzzle doesn’t work. Too much touch and not enough penetration. Too much structure and not enough spontaneity.
