Google merges former Moonshot robot software company Intrinsic, alphabet We’re trying to rationalize our space ambitions.

After five and a half years of technology development at Alphabet’s Moonshot Factory, X, Intrinsic was spun off from Alphabet’s Other Betting division in July 2021. Google’s parent company announced Wednesday that the company will be absorbed into Google itself.

Although hardware such as robotic arms has become cheaper, programming them is still incredibly complex, often requiring hundreds of hours of manual coding by specialized engineers, which can vary depending on the specific robot.

Intrinsic’s flagship product, Flowstate, is a web-based platform that allows users to build robotic applications without writing thousands of lines of code.

“Joining Google will allow us to enhance collaboration across the frontier AI, from research and development to deployment and day-to-day operations, enabling industrial use cases in manufacturing and logistics,” the company said in an announcement.

The company added that the platform leverages the Gemini model and the cloud and works closely with Google DeepMind.

This shift will shift software platforms to the company’s core priorities, allowing Google to better compete with rivals such as: Amazon and tesla. It also shows that the company is ready to expand its product while working more closely with Google’s AI team.

In November, essential and Nvidia Supplier Foxconn announced a partnership to bring AI robots to electronics assembly at Foxconn’s U.S. factories.

Intrinsic CEO Wendy Tan-White said in an announcement Wednesday that by leveraging Google’s AI and infrastructure, the company can “unlock the potential of physical AI for a broader range of manufacturers and developers.”
