Post-Fed movers and shakers Stocks soared after a divided Fed cut rates by a quarter of a point and signaled little appetite for further easing. The Russell 2000 hit new intraday highs, but the Dow and S&P 500 were less than 1% shy of their all-time highs. Industry and materials led the way. Public works was checked at the bottom. SPDR Tech Info ETF (XLK) has recorded its 13th consecutive positive day, matching its February 2017 streak. As gold rose, silver hit an all-time high. President Donald Trump said the Fed should have cut rates twice as much. Focus on Venezuela President Trump announced that the U.S. military has seized a large tanker off the coast of Venezuela. Oil prices rose on this news. President Trump has increased pressure on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, saying his “life expectancy is numbered.” Most of Venezuela’s oil exports go to China. Oracle falls on missed revenue Oracle shares fell 11% in after-hours after missing quarterly revenue. Stocks have been underperforming lately, heading for their worst quarter since 2002. That said, Oracle has been in positive space for three consecutive years, gaining over 170% in those three years. ORCL Oracle’s mountain share for the past 6 months is 6 million. Broadcom’s Broader Benefits Broadcom is scheduled to report earnings after the bell on Thursday. The stock hit a 52-week high on Wednesday. Among semiconductor stocks, only Micron outperformed Broadcom over the past 12 months. The company’s stock price has soared over the past three years, increasing by about 658%. Costco at a crossroads? Investors will be keeping an eye on Costco’s quarterly results on Thursday. Stock prices are on track to end the year with a decline for the first time since 2022. Walmart has outperformed Costco by 20 points over the past three months. Mad Money’s Jim Cramer says he’s “concerned” about Costco. The stock continues its own decline, on pace for its worst annual performance since 2008. Over 60% of the stock’s value has disappeared in the past two years. Carvana in Nirvana Carvana has once again hit an all-time high. It set a 13-day winning streak and was up about 50% in that period. Carvana is expected to join the S&P 500 within two weeks.
