Sunlight shines on the city’s top during the show’s late show
Man City won a hard-fought 2-1 win against London City Lionesses, extending their lead at the top of the WSL to nine points.
After Chelsea’s loss to Arsenal on Saturday, Andrii Szegrats and his team knew they had a golden opportunity to widen a seemingly insurmountable gap.
It was the perfect start for them too, with Kerorin scoring in the 11th minute. A wonderfully weighted pass from Vivianne Miedema set up the Brazilian, who raced through the middle to finish.
But the City of London did not make life easy for its visitors. Izzy Goodwin hit the bar twice in the first half and Man City were dominated for the first 20 minutes after the break.
They took advantage and Freya Godfrey scored the equalizer in the 68th minute. Kosovare Aslani found his teammate on the right side of the box and Godfrey fired a shot from an angle over the goalkeeper for a superb finish.
The game posed a real test of Man City’s title credentials, but they passed with flying colors as Khadijah ‘Bunny’ Shaw won the match with just four minutes of normal playing time.
It was a scrambled effort, with no one caring about Manchester City’s persuasion. The build came from the second phase after a corner kick, with Alex Greenwood’s first shot being cleared from the goal line by former Man City teammate Alana Kennedy.
But Shaw raced home the rebound from close range and celebrated in front of the away end.

Mia Enderby scored twice in stoppage time to give the Liverpool side a 2-0 victory over Spurs, giving them their first win of the WSL season.
The 20-year-old was the beneficiary of a chaotic goal-line scramble after Tottenham failed to properly clear their line from Cheri Holland’s dangerous corner. Unfortunately, Evelina Zumanen’s slip allowed the ball into the net, and she scored her second goal in the second minute, sending the BrewDog Stadium into a frenzy.
The host team had the upper hand from the beginning. Alice Bergström hit the bar with a curling shot after just two minutes, but a lackluster Spurs side struggled to deal with Liverpool’s attack and failed to capitalize on a number of chances in the first half.
The same trend continued in the second half. Cornelia Kapox failed to convert two clear-cut chances in the final hour after Cheri Holland’s brilliant counterattack, and the Reds had a third chance when Spurs goalkeeper Lise Kop scrambled off the line.
It looked like the visitors would escape with a point from St Helens when a Dutch free-kick rattled the post at the start of second-half stoppage time, but Enderby’s late double punished a performance that captain Bethany England described as “not up to Tottenham Hotspur’s standard”.
Liverpool remain bottom of the table, but Man United’s win over Aston Villa moves Tottenham back to fifth place, with their first win taking them one point clear of West Ham above the drop zone.

Highlights of the Women’s Super League match between Aston Villa and Manchester United.
Man United scored three goals in eight second-half minutes to seal a stunning 4-1 victory over Aston Villa and regain victory in the WSL.
Goals from Elisabeth Terlando, Jess Park and Hannah Lundqvist were followed by Julia Gigiotte Olme’s superb opening goal from a corner kick, punishing a Villa team that fell apart in the second half.
However, the opening match was a very even battle. Kirsty Hanson, a thorn in her former side’s side, scored a stunning equalizer just two minutes after opening the scoring with Zigiot Olme’s looped corner, while Fallon Tallis-Joyce made a fine save from Maya Hikijata’s curling shot to deny Villa’s lead.
United started the second half impressively and their ferocious attacking play was rewarded as substitute Talland’s low drive was too powerful for Ellie Roebuck to score for Villa.
The third and fourth followed soon after. Park, who impressed from start to finish, scored after a long winding run and gave a nice assist to Lundqvist on the overlap, as the new signing put the game away.
The result leaves Man United third, one point behind Arsenal, with Villa remaining seventh after Brighton’s win over Everton on Friday.
West Ham win their first WSL win under Guarino

Highlights of the Women’s Super League match between Leicester City and West Ham.
West Ham defeated Leicester 2-1 at the King Power Stadium to secure their first WSL win under new manager Rita Guarino.
Verena Hanshaw gave the Hammers the lead after the half-hour mark, curling a stunning free-kick into the top corner.
Leicester had chances, but West Ham extended their lead to two points in the second half with a goal from Shekiera Martinez. It was another great finish as she moved forward and hit a mid-range shot that beat the goalkeeper.
Leicester handed their debut to new signing Alisha Lehmann soon after and it looked like she too would score. However, Eva Nyström was the first to put the ball into her own net, giving the Foxes a point.
However, the Hammers held on for their first away win of the season in the WSL and remain one point clear of the bottom of the table.
