Russian President Vladimir Putin’s chief of staff for foreign policy said on Sunday that he was confident that changes to the U.S. proposal by European countries and Ukraine would not improve the chances of peace in Ukraine, according to Interfax news agency.

“This is not a prediction,” Kremlin foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov told reporters.

“I am convinced that the proposals that Europeans and Ukrainians have made or are trying to make will not improve the document and the chances of achieving long-term peace.”

European and Ukrainian negotiators are discussing changes to a series of U.S. proposals to end the nearly four-year war, but it is unclear exactly what changes have been made to the original U.S. proposal.

U.S. negotiators met with Russian officials in Florida on Saturday.

Putin’s special envoy Kirill Dmitriev told reporters after a meeting with U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, that talks were constructive and would continue Sunday.
