Anthony Joshua expresses heartfelt condolences to friend killed in Nigeria car crash | Boxing News

Anthony Joshua has paid heartfelt condolences to two of his friends who died in a car crash in Nigeria.

Joshua was released from hospital on New Year’s Eve after sustaining minor injuries in the fatal incident that claimed the lives of Shina Ghami and Latif “Rats” Ayodele.

A statement released by Joshua’s spokesperson said Gami and Ayodele are “close friends and integral members of Anthony’s team.”

Joshua posted a tribute to his two friends on social media.

“Thank you for all the love and care you showed my brothers. I didn’t even know how special they were,” she wrote in an Instagram post.

“I don’t even know that God kept me in the presence of great people, just walking with them and joking with them.

“It’s 100 percent hard for me, but I know it’s even harder for their parents ❤️ I have a strong heart and I believe God knows their hearts. May God have mercy on my brothers 🙏🏾”

The driver of the car involved in the accident, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, was charged by the Nigeria Police on Friday with charges including causing death by dangerous driving and driving without a license.

The case was adjourned until January 20.

Heavyweight boxer Fabio Wardley says Anthony Joshua needs time to recover and decide whether to box again after his tragic car accident in Nigeria.

The defendants were granted bail in the sum of 5 million naira (£2,578) and remanded until bail conditions are met.

Joshua, who is of Nigerian descent, had recently spent time in the country following his knockout win over Jake Paul in Miami.
