Nvidia Director Persis Dorrell, a Stanford University engineering professor, resigned on Wednesday after more than a decade on the company’s board, the company said in a filing with the SEC on Friday.

Nvidia said Dorrell, 70, resigned to pursue “new professional opportunities” and not because of any disagreements with the company or issues related to its operations or policies.

Dorrell, who served on the compensation committee, is the first member of Nvidia’s board to retire since astronaut Ellen Ochoa resigned in June. The Board of Directors currently has 10 directors, including CEO Jensen Huang.

Dorell owns nearly 143,000 Nvidia shares worth about $26 million, according to the latest ownership report. She received about $344,000 in compensation for her work at Nvidia last year, including about $259,000 in stock compensation, according to the company’s annual report.

Nvidia’s stock price has risen more than 22,000% since the end of 2015, emerging as the world’s most valuable company thanks to the artificial intelligence boom. Dorel sold about 40,000 shares last year.

Dorrell has been a professor at Stanford University since 2002, served as dean of the School of Engineering from 2014 to 2017, and served as president of Stanford University from 2017 to 2023. He also served as director of Stanford University’s particle accelerator, known as SLAC, from 2007 to 2012.

Correction: This story has been corrected to reflect that Persis Dorrell is 70 years old. A previous version incorrectly listed her age.
