Meta Glasses are new smart glasses starting at $299

meta As CEO Mark Zuckerberg continues his commitment to wearables, the company on Tuesday announced a new set of smart glasses for $299, at least $80 less than the price of the company’s entry-level second-generation Meta Ray-Ban glasses.

The Metaglass features a new design and is manufactured in partnership with Ray-Ban’s parent company. Essilor Lux OticaHowever, it does not have Ray-Ban or Oakley branding.

Meta is aggressively marketing its smart glasses to consumers as eyewear competition increases and consumers see more value in augmented reality devices. Although the smart glasses market is still small, Meta and EssilorLuxottica dominate the market, with an estimated market share of over 80% and millions of units sold since their initial launch in 2021.

There are three types of Metagrass designs.

Metaglass doesn’t have a screen, but includes a camera and a personal speaker. Users can talk to Meta’s AI to translate or understand what’s around them, and to take photos and videos of their surroundings.

Meta executives said they believe the lightweight smart glasses are a step toward more advanced devices with screens with computing capabilities in the lenses. Last year, Meta introduced $799 glasses with a built-in display called Ray-Ban Display Glasses.

Zuckerberg has had more success with smart glasses than virtual reality headsets, which were key to the company changing its name from Facebook to Meta in 2021. While VR remains a niche market primarily for gamers, Zuckerberg is focused on owning the hardware platform for the age of artificial intelligence.

Meanwhile, competition in the smart glasses market is intensifying. Google announced last month that it was partnering with Google to develop new computerized eyewear. warby hoodie Use the Gemini AI model. last week, snap CEO Evan Spiegel announced Specs, a $2,195 smart glass that is positioned as a successor to smartphones.

According to the company, MetaGlass comes in three new designs. Meta also announced a new charging stand for its glasses.
