The Kansas City Chiefs will sign Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker III to provide much-needed help to Patrick Mahomes and his offense.

Walker had 161 yards from scrimmage to lead the Seattle Seahawks to a 29-13 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60 in Santa Clara in February.

This makes him the first running back to win Super Bowl MVP since Terrell Davis in 1998, and he will spearhead Kansas City’s rushing attack that ranked eighth worst in the league last season.

NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported Monday that Walker is set to sign a three-year, $45 million contract with the Chiefs, but the news comes the same day it was announced that tight end Travis Kelce will delay his retirement to play his 14th season at Arrowhead.

Walker’s addition is a big boost for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who continues to recover from a torn ACL suffered last December.

It’s worth noting that Mahomes himself racked up 422 rushing yards last year as the Chiefs staggered behind Kareem Hunt and Isaiah Pacheco, the latter of whom was hampered by injury.

Walker helped Seattle win the Super Bowl, rushing for 313 yards and four touchdowns in three playoff games.

He had 1,027 rushing yards and five touchdowns on a career-high 4.6 yards per carry during the regular season, sharing the workload with Zach Charbonnet, but was thrust into the spotlight late in the season due to injuries to his teammates.

The Seahawks selected Walker in the second round of the 2022 draft out of Michigan State, and he went on to rush for 1,050 yards and a career-high nine touchdowns in his rookie season.

Evans heads to San Francisco

The San Francisco 49ers have added a proven pass catcher in quarterback Brock Purdy, agreeing to a three-year contract with Mike Evans.

Evans is coming off an injury-plagued 2025 season in which he played in only eight games and failed to reach the 1,000-yard mark for the first time in his 12-year career in Tampa Bay.

The Buccaneers released a statement thanking Evans and saying the team will continue to honor him.

“It’s never easy saying goodbye to a legend like Mike Evans, but today we are filled with gratitude for everything he accomplished during his extraordinary 12-year career as a Buccaneer,” the team’s owners, the Glazer family, said in a statement.

“Our goal was always to allow Mike to play his entire career as a Buccaneer, but as the process progressed, it became clear that he was looking for a new challenge.”

The Niners needed a proven receiver after placing Brandon Aiyuk on the reserve/left team list last season, where the team is scheduled to release him on Wednesday after he sat out rehabbing a knee injury that sidelined him since October 2024. Aiyuk signed a four-year, $120 million extension before the 2024 season, but the $27 million guaranteed for the 2026 season was voided.

Evans joins a receiving group that includes 2024 first-round pick Ricky Pearsall, veteran DeMarcus Robinson, and unproven young players Jacob Cowing and Jordan Watkins. Jauan Jennings, the team’s top wideout last season, is scheduled to become a free agent.

Evans achieved his goal in the final game of the 2024 season, becoming the first player in NFL history to have at least 1,000 yards receiving in his first 11 seasons.

Etienne returned to Louisiana

Running back Travis Etienne will sign with the New Orleans Saints after spending five seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Etienne, a Louisiana native, was a first-round pick out of Clemson in 2021 and has rushed for 3,798 yards and 25 touchdowns in four seasons since then, missing his entire rookie year due to injury.

He joined Alvin Kamara in the Saints’ backfield on a four-year, $52 million contract to support promising second-year quarterback Tyler Schau.

Etienne finished the 2025 season with 1,107 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, and six receiving touchdowns, and the Jags made the playoffs under first-year head coach Liam Cohen.
