Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent appeared on CNBC’s “Squawk Box” on Monday and said the meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping may be postponed for logistical reasons.

President Trump suggested on Sunday that the summit could be postponed as the United States presses China to help reopen the Strait of Hormuz. Bessent on Monday dismissed those comments and insisted the summit would be postponed if President Trump chooses to remain in Washington to coordinate the war effort in Iran.

“Even if the talks are delayed, they will not be delayed because the president has asked China to secure the Strait of Hormuz,” Bessent said in an interview with CNBC’s Brian Sullivan in Paris. “If the meeting is rescheduled for any reason, it will be changed for logistical reasons.”
