British Prime Minister Keir Starmer says he is “sick and tired” of the UK’s energy bills going up and down because of the actions of US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The comments were made in an interview on ITV News’ Talking Politics podcast on Thursday, as oil prices – which have soared during the US-Israel war with Iran – fluctuate amid a volatile two-week ceasefire.

“I’m tired of the fact that households across the country have their energy bills going up and down, businesses’ energy bills going up and down, because of the actions of the Putins and Trumps of the world,” Starmer said.

Russia invaded Ukraine in February 2022, sparking a years-long war that killed hundreds of thousands of people and disrupted the global economy.

White House press secretary Anna Kelly defended President Trump’s actions.

“Many world leaders have spent decades talking about the Iranian threat and doing nothing about it,” he said in an email. “President Trump has taken courageous actions to ensure that Iran never acquires a nuclear weapon. As the President has said, we are moving much closer to a final agreement to achieve lasting peace.”

Mr Starmer also said Israel was “wrong” to order the deadly attack on Lebanon during the ceasefire. Iran blamed the attack on Lebanon and accused the United States of violating ceasefire terms.
