Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva is scheduled to visit the United States later this week and meet with President Donald Trump, according to media reports.
Brazilian newspaper O Globo first reported the planned trip on Monday. Reuters also reported later that day, citing two unnamed Brazilian officials, that Lula would travel to the United States within the next few days. One source said he was traveling on Wednesday for a meeting with President Trump the following day.

The White House has not yet confirmed reports about the trip.
Relations between the leftist Mr. Lula and Mr. Trump have improved after an initial period of hostility when the United States imposed tariffs on Brazilian goods and pressured Brazilian authorities to drop a case against right-wing former President Jair Bolsonaro over his involvement in a coup plot.
Despite ongoing tensions over foreign policy and the Trump administration’s relationship with Bolsonaro and his allies, the two leaders spoke by phone in January, during which Lula said he planned to visit the United States in the future.
Trump and Lula briefly met in person during the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) summit in Kuala Lumpur in October.
