Anthropic has signed a roughly $45 billion cloud deal with UK-based artificial intelligence infrastructure company NScale, CNBC confirmed Wednesday.

As part of the deal, Anthropic will lease about 460 megawatts of computing power from its Nscale data center development in West Virgina, according to two people familiar with the matter who requested anonymity because the details are confidential. Through this facility, Anthropic will leverage Nvidia’s advanced Vera Rubin chips and is expected to begin operations in late 2027, officials said.

Bloomberg first reported on the deal.

Anthropic announced earlier this year that increased demand for its Claude AI models and products had placed an “inevitable strain” on its infrastructure, impacting “reliability and performance” for users, especially during peak times. The company announced a flurry of deals with infrastructure partners in the coming months to increase its computing power, including major deals with Advanced Micro Devices, Elon Musk’s SpaceX, Google and Broadcom.

Anthropic secretly filed an IPO prospectus with the Securities and Exchange Commission in June and has been holding preliminary meetings with potential investors.

The company is particularly focused on OpenAI and google. The company’s infrastructure strategy is central to its roadmap and Wall Street story.

WATCH: Anthropic is leading the way with foundational models at the heart of the AI wave, says early investor Matt Murphy
