Prince George arrives at Eton, the elite school that taught his father and 20 British prime ministers

Britain’s Prince George celebrated his first day at Eton College on Tuesday, beginning the next stage of his education.

The 13-year-old is following in the footsteps of his father, Prince William, and uncle, Prince Harry. Both attended prestigious schools outside London.

Accompanied by his parents William and Catherine, George headed to his new school in good spirits despite the gloomy autumn weather.

George, second in line to the British throne, arrived wearing a jacket, shirt, tie and dark trousers, but quickly changed into a stiff white-collared school uniform of black tailcoat, waistcoat and pinstriped trousers.

Families crossed the school’s historic playground – a cobbled corner with a statue of Henry VI, who founded the school in 1440, in the center – and were greeted by the school’s principals Simon Henderson and Nicholas Coleridge.

The group chatted for a few minutes, and Henderson told the new students, “Welcome, good luck and have fun,” she said.

Eton College is located in Berkshire, England, a stone’s throw from Windsor Castle, and educates boys aged 13 to 18, with approximately 270 students per year. Students live in 25 residence halls on campus. Each boarding house has approximately 55 students and is supervised by a boarding director.

Prince William has attended the school since 1995, and Prince Harry has attended the school since 1998.

The school is one of the most famous and prestigious fee-paying schools in the UK, with a distinguished alumni list including celebrities and 20 of the UK’s 59 Prime Ministers.

Former Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who led Britain from 2019 to 2022, and former Prime Minister David Cameron, who served as Prime Minister from 2010 to 2016, are both former students.

Other famous Old Etonians include actors Hugh Laurie, Tom Hiddleston and Eddie Redmayne.

Eton’s current tuition fees for the 2025/26 academic year are £63,298.80 (approximately $84,900).

Before attending Eton, George attended Lambrook School, a private preparatory school near Windsor, with his siblings Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.
