The race to protect businesses from swarms of rogue artificial intelligence agents is driving demand for new security tools.

The latest beneficiary of this trend is Dallas-based browser security startup Island, which announced a $400 million funding round on Thursday at a valuation of $6.4 billion.

“All the old management is falling apart and everything is up for grabs,” Island CEO and co-founder Mike Fay told CNBC in an exclusive interview. “I’ve never seen anything like this before. It’s a very special time.”

The round, led by Evolution Equity Partners, comes as a battle over AI regulation intensifies in Washington and Silicon Valley, with lawmakers on both sides of the aisle debating slowing development.

At the same time, companies are rushing to deploy stronger defenses to thwart rogue AI agents. OpenAIThe attack on Hugging Face was orchestrated by agents of.

Island plans to invest in research and development and drive expansion into new markets, including Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Fay also said the company plans to expand its workforce from 1,000 to 1,500 employees by the middle of next year.

Island was ranked 28th on this year’s CNBC Disruptor 50 list. pfizer, chipotle pepper, american airlines Our client list also includes major banks.

The company is widely known for its enterprise browser, which allows businesses to monitor and control browser activity while employees collaborate. Browsers are a common target for hackers looking to steal sensitive information, especially in hybrid work environments.

“Our focus is on delivering all the capabilities necessary for the safety, security and productivity of the workforce of the future,” Fay said.

Island will also navigate an increasingly crowded competitive landscape, including pure competition incumbents such as: palo alto networks and a roster of startups vying for a piece of the expanding AI security market.

This complicates an already complex business stack and forces companies to rethink their architecture, Fay said.

Rather, Island is betting that its broad platform and startup-like nimble feel will appeal to businesses looking to increase productivity and simplify their toolsets.

“It’s very simple: Make a better product,” Fay said. “That’s your only option and that’s what we did.
