microsoft Ryan Roslansky, the executive who led software company LinkedIn’s subsidiary for six years, will retire at the end of 2026. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced his departure in a memo on Thursday.

“Ryan leaves the organization in a strong position,” Nadella wrote in a message to employees.

Like other tech giants, Redmond, Washington-based Microsoft is looking to evolve and capitalize on the rise of generative artificial intelligence. Head of games Phil Spencer and office leader Rajesh Jha both left this year, and Charlie Bell, the company’s head of security, became an individual contributor.

Roslansky joined LinkedIn as head of product in 2009, when it was still a private company. Previously, he held management positions at Yahoo and Glam Media. Microsoft acquired LinkedIn in 2016 for $27 billion. Roslansky was appointed CEO of LinkedIn in 2020, replacing Jeff Weiner. During Rozlansky’s tenure, LinkedIn grew from 700 million to 1.3 billion members.

In 2025, Mr. Roslansky assumed additional responsibilities in Microsoft’s Office Productivity Software Group. Earlier this year, Mr. Nadella appointed Mr. Roslansky and two other executives to lead Microsoft 365 applications and artificial intelligence platform Copilot, and LinkedIn’s chief operating officer, Dan Shapro, became CEO of the professional social network.

Nadella noted Roslansky’s contributions to the integrated Copilot app that Microsoft announced last week.

“With Copilot, we are rapidly executing on our vision to fully embed Office into Copilot and build a new OS for work across any model, any form factor, any task, and vice versa. Over the past year, Ryan’s team has done significant work integrating the product, engineering, and design foundations that will enable this next phase.”

Microsoft revealed in July that LinkedIn revenue growth accelerated to 11% in the June fiscal year, up from less than 9% a year earlier. Weeks earlier, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman had announced plans to step down from Microsoft’s board of directors, which he took on in 2017.

Rozlansky told employees in the memo that he was Wiener’s first hire at LinkedIn and has been inspired by Office’s advances around AI.

“I know what it takes to successfully lead the next phase of this job, and that means being in Redmond full-time, every day,” Roslansky wrote. “But my life and my family’s life is here in the Bay Area.”
